Is Your Life Burglar-Proof? The Radical Secret to Unstealable Wealth
We live in a world obsessed with security. We install smart cameras, deadbolts, and alarm systems to protect our "stuff." But the reality is that if your treasure is kept on earth, it is never truly safe. Thieves are real, and they are looking for high-value targets.
What if you could make yourself fundamentally un-robbable?
Jesus didn’t teach us how to build better fences; He taught us how to move our assets to a place where fences aren't necessary.
The Audit: Identifying Your Vulnerabilities
Every security audit begins with identifying "single points of failure." In the spiritual life, your single point of failure is covetousness—the desire for more.
In Luke 12:15, Jesus issues a stern warning: “Take heed and beware of covetousness; for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” When we define our worth by our possessions, we create a spiritual "evil eye" that attracts greedy wolves. We become attractive victims because we are holding onto things that are destined to rot or be taken.
Earthly vs. Heavenly Assets
To understand why we are so vulnerable, we have to look at the "shelf life" of our investments.
The Radical Upgrade: Selling Out
We often try to "soften" the words of Jesus to make them more comfortable, but the Gospel isn't comfortable—it's transformative. When Jesus met the rich young man in Luke 18:22, He didn't offer a suggestion; He gave a command:
"Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor and thou shalt have treasure in heaven and come, follow me."
This wasn't a metaphor. For this man, his possessions were the very things making him a victim. They were the anchors keeping him tied to a world where "thieves break through and steal." Jesus’ solution to being burglar-proof is radical: If you have already given it away, there is nothing left for a thief to take.
How to Become Spiritually "Burglar-Proof"
De-Value the Target: A thief doesn't break into an empty warehouse. When we "cast off" the love of money and the pride of life, we no longer look like a target to the darkness of this world.
Transfer the Wealth: Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 6:18 to be "rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to share." Every act of generosity is a wire transfer to a heavenly account that no thief can approach.
Change Your Heart’s Location: "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." If your heart is in Heaven, a home invasion on earth can’t touch your joy.
The "Enduring Substance"
The early church lived this out with shocking intensity. In Hebrews 10, Paul recalls how believers took "joyfully the spoiling of their goods." Imagine that—giving your belongings with joy.
They weren't crazy; they were simply burglar-proof. They knew they had in heaven a "better and an enduring substance."
The Challenge: Are you laboring for possessions that draw the attraction of greedy wolves? Or are you ready to follow the radical call of Jesus to sell the temporary so you can lay hold of the eternal?
Today's Prayer: We pray that you will have the courage to strip away the "lust of the eyes" and find your security in the unstealable, unshakable Kingdom of God.
