REFUSING FABLES, TRAINING IN TRUTH

In the modern digital age, old shadows are reappearing. Ancient myths that the Apostle Paul warned against nearly two thousand years ago are being rebranded for a new generation.

Among these is the "Serpent Seed" doctrine—a myth that suggests some humans are biologically descended from a literal union between Eve and the Serpent, often tied to folklore like the Lilith myths. While it may sound like deep "spiritual warfare," the scriptures label it differently: a profane fable.

The Apostolic Order: Command and Teach

In 1 Timothy 4, Paul doesn't suggest that Timothy ignore these strange teachings; he commands him to actively oppose them by teaching the truth. The distinction is between speculative mythology and practical godliness.

"But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come... These things command and teach." — 1 Timothy 4:7-8, 11 (KJV)

The Danger of the Myth

The "Serpent Seed" myth is not a victimless theory. Its primary fruit is fear and suspicion. If you believe that certain people carry a "serpent DNA," you stop seeing people as souls made in the image of God and start seeing them as biological enemies.

This leads to:

  • Marital Paranoia: Being terrified that you have married or will marry someone who is "irredeemable."

  • Ungodly Treatment: Dehumanizing others based on perceived "bloodlines" rather than their character or need for Christ.

  • Spiritual Elitism: Thinking you possess "secret knowledge" that separates you from the "common" believer.

The Ultimate Contrast: Loving Your Enemies

The most devastating critique of the Serpent Seed doctrine is that it makes it impossible to follow the explicit command of Jesus Christ. If a person is labeled a "serpent seed," they are often viewed as outside the reach of God's grace. Yet, Jesus' standard was clear:

"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" — Matthew 5:44 (KJV)

If your theology gives you a reason to stop loving your neighbor—or worse, a reason to label your neighbor as a sub-human "seed"—then your theology is in direct opposition to the words of Christ. The myth breeds coldness; the Gospel breeds love.

The Takeaway: True godliness is an exercise of the heart. It is not found in the investigation of "endless genealogies" or secret DNA theories. It is found in the daily discipline of walking like Christ, treating all people with the dignity of their Creator, and resting in the fact that God is the Savior of all who believe.

Final Thought

Paul’s instruction remains our standard today. We must refuse the fables that keep

us in fear and suspicion. Instead, we must labor in the exercise of godliness, which

is profitable for this life and the next. Let us not be "seed hunters," but "soul

winners."

"This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation." — 1 Timothy 4:9
